Heightened rivalries between major powers bring about continuing supply chain disruptions as the free flows of open trade and well managed comparative advantages give way to protectionism, decoupling and on-shoring. Yet, at some economic and trade levels, many positive signs testify to the resilience of the international system and the enduring logic of market economics. Importantly, the return to a commitment to openness and business-friendly policies announced by the Chinese leadership bears promise and signals a readiness to engage with foreign markets and stakeholders. In this revived context, Sino-Swiss relations remain particularly healthy: Vice Premier Liu He’s visit to Switzerland on the occasion of the latest World Economic Forum and his talks with some of our Federal Councillors brought our bilateral relations into the limelight. In China, it is published by the Beijing Planetarium: www.bjp.org.cn/APOD/today.shtml Recently, amazing photos were published from the Neuchâtel region in Switzerland, home of La Soleille Family Office, in the middle of the Swiss nature, which is impressive both by day and by night! You may wonder what can be seen in the night sky while we sleep deeply? To illustrate the answer, a beautiful land, cloud and sky landscape was captured at midnight over Neuchâtel, earlier this month. In the foreground are the snow-capped cliffs of the amphitheatre-shaped "Creux du Van", as well as distant trees and clouds illuminated by the city of Neuchâtel. Day and night, “Creux du Van” is an amazing structure about 1200m wide and 500m deep. The total length of the rock walls, which drop vertically about 160 metres, is about four kilometres. First the glaciers, then the streams created the breath-taking rock formation from the limestone deposits of a primeval sea around 200 million years ago. Thus, the steeply sloping rock faces also offer an impressive geological insight. The regional climate of the "Creux du Van" is also exceptional, with forests and arctic-alpine flora in the rock arena. Chamois, ibex, lynx and numerous other wild animals populate the unspoilt natural landscape, which is protected by a 25-square-kilometre reserve. In the middle of the basin springs a spring, the "Cold Fountain", whose water is four degrees Celsius cold all year round. This is amazing and shows how clear the nights are over Switzerland. They are so clear and bright because there is no or minimal pollution over the green heart of Switzerland in Central Europe.
