Introduction
Dr. Jean-Jacques de Dardel is a Swiss career diplomat originally from Neuchâtel, who lived and studied in Switserland, the United-States, Brazil, Canada and China. He obtained a French Baccalaureate C (Scientific), a Masters in Political Economy from the University of Geneva, a Diploma in International Studies, and a Doctorate in Political Science/International Relations from the Graduate Institue of International Studies in Geneva. He was the Swiss ambassador to China during five years as well as ambassador to more than 5 countries. As such, he led the largest Swiss diplomatic, consular and cooperation network abroad. He is also a frequent lecturer, an author of 13 books on international relations, history and the arts as well as numerous book chapters, monographies and articles. Dr. Jean-Jacques de Dardel is committed to Sino-Swiss relations, ESG goals, green finance, trust and security.
Career
In 1976, he joined the ICRC (International Committee of the Red Cross). Upon completion of his PhD, he joined the Swiss Foreign Service and served in Vienna in 1981, then Bern where he was the foreign policy speech writer of the President of the Swiss Confederation and of the Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. He was subsequently posted to Washington (Political Counsellor), Canberra (Deputy Chief of Mission) and Paris (Minister-Counsellor, then Ambassador to the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie). In 2001, he founde and led the Center for International Security Policy of the FDFA (Federal Department of Foreign Affairs) and was the head representative of the Federal Authorities in the Organizing Committee of the G8 Summit in Evian in 2003. He subsequently became Director General for Europe, Central Asia, the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe), the Council of Europe and the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe. He led a series of mediation missions among conflicting nations and was appointed ambassador to NATO, to Belgium, then to France, Monaco, UNESCO, OIF (Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie). From 2014 to 2019, he was ambassador to China, Mongolia and the DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea).
Post-career
Upon completion of his diplomatic career, Dr. Jean-Jacques de Dardel joined a number of Swiss and international companies ranging from Fortune 500 to start-ups and scale ups as member of their Board of Directors or Advisory Board. He is President of the Economy of Trust Foundation, President of the Board of Swiss Centers Foundation and Group, Vice-President and Professor of Xinrui Business School, lecturer at the University of Zurich, President of Lemania International School Altdorf and member of the board of the Bella Vista Group, Finma approved board member of Coninco SA and One Creation Cooperative financial companies, among others and Cyber Ambassador of Assured Cyber Protection. Founder and Chairman of Sinoglade International Consulting SA.
